Our Rotary District

The Rotary Club of Balwyn is part of the Rotary International District 9800 in Victoria, Australia.

For the purposes of administration, Rotary clubs throughout the world are allocated into districts. A Rotary district covers a number of clubs within a defined geographical area. Australia became District 65 in 1928. By the 75th anniversary of Rotary’s arrival in Australia, there were 23 districts with 1178 clubs and some 42,000 members. District 9800 was defined in 1990.

District 9800 incorporates 70 clubs in a wedge shaped area of central Victoria from the Melbourne metropolitan area up to the Murray River. The district has 51 clubs in the metropolitan area & 19 located in country Victoria.

The activities of the district are overseen by a District Governor and a voluntary staff of assistants all of whom belong to clubs within the district.
As occurs in all Rotary districts, District 9800 has an annual convention every year. The District Convention is organized by the club of the District Governor. All Rotarians in the district are invited to attend the conference should they wish to do so.
