International Connections

Rotary is, by its very nature, an international organization but at the grass roots level, most clubs operate locally whilst supporting some overseas projects.

We have been lucky to have established some close ties with several clubs in other parts of the world and have formally established "SisterClub" relationships with them.

After the tsunami disaster, Balwyn decided to contribute substantial funds for disaster relief on the Malaysan peninsula. Under the circumstances, we needed to establish close ties with a local club to help manage the funds in order to maximise the benefits on the ground. The Rotary Club of Penang is that club and in the end, AUD81,000 was contributed.

Our relationship with the Rotary Club of Goksu in Istambul, Turkey came about in a different way. We have members who have been influential in setting up an annual Rotary ANZAC tour of Turkey & Galipoli. In doing this, they have enjoyed the support & friendship of the Goksu Club. This friendship has developed into a formal sister club relationship.
